This course equips new drivers with the skills and knowledge to navigate Vermont's roads confidently and safely.
It combines classroom instruction with practical behind-the-wheel training and observation sessions.
Classroom Learning:
- 30 Hours of Instruction: Master essential topics like Vermont traffic laws, road signs, safe driving practices, and the effects of substances on driving. You'll also learn defensive driving techniques, responsible car ownership, and the dangers of distracted driving.
- Additional Modules: Gain valuable insights on the importance of seat belts and how speed impacts safety.
Behind-the-Wheel Training:
- 6 Hours of Hands-on Experience: Practice driving in various conditions, including city streets, highways, and adverse weather.
- Skill Development: Focus on mastering maneuvers like parallel parking, lane changes, and vehicle control.
Learning by Observation:
- 6 Hours of Observation Time: Observe another student drive under instructor guidance, learning from both good practices and common mistakes.
Parental Involvement:
- 40 Hours of Supervised Practice: Gain valuable experience with a parent or guardian, including at least 10 hours of nighttime driving.
- Parental Support: Parents are encouraged to participate in the learning process and reinforce skills taught in class.
Assessment:
- Written Knowledge Test: Demonstrate your understanding of the course material by passing a written test.
